Welcome to the eleventh installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed here. Check out other EVE Blog Banter articles at the bottom of this post!

This month’s banter comes to us from Joe Brusati, who asks the following: CCP states that T3 Strategic Cruisers are just the start for the T3 line-up. In future Eve expansions what would you like to see as the next T3 ship type. Please be specific on details about what role this ship would play, cost of manufacturing, and the different modules that would be available for it, and of course you must give your T3 ship a name!

Being a fan of small ships the next logical step for me would be strategic frigates. Currently tech II frigate hulls come in four variants: Assault frigate, cover-ops, interceptor and stealth bomber. E-war frigates are a thing apart but might as well include them. So we will see subsystems that are a spin-off of these various roles: Tank, cov-ops cloak, speed, racial ewar, bomber, tackle. Like tech III cruisers each ship will have five subsystems, and the only additional skills needed will be those to fly each race’s strategic frigate.
Costs of manufacturing will be kept straight-forward. Simply balance it in the way that small rig material requirements are balanced against those of medium rig. This would go for all components and perhaps even specific components just used for T3 frigate manufacturing could be introduced if it would help to balance things.
As for looks all subsystems will receive unique models. They will NOT simply be a smaller versions of the strategic counterparts. It should not be said they will follow the architecture of their parent race.
That just leaves naming these new ships:
  • Caldari: Taniku (a smaller demon than Tengu)
  • Amarr: Gospel (“I am Legion” is a phrase from the gospel)
  • Gallente: Eidothea (daughter of Proteus)
  • Minmatar: Jörmungandr (son of Loki)

Very good job with the names. Much more reason than anything from CCP.

  5. Myrhial Arkenath says:

@Vol: CCP always picks their names according to a certain scheme, I simply followed that scheme and looked for names that weren't taken yet and would suit frigates :)

@CK: Awesome! Time to make a post on that ^_^
